The problem
A flat back lawn faced the house and nothing else. The family ate inside from September to June because there was nowhere to sit outside after 6 p.m.
Decisions on the plan
- Moved the sitting area to the far corner so it looks back at the lit house
- Gravel terrace on a drained base instead of more lawn
- Fire pit sized for six, seat height at 18 inches
- Two lighting zones: path on at dusk, fire terrace on a scene button
What they use now
The terrace is the room they use most in October. The lawn that is left is the part the kids play on.
